Baptism at St. Mary's Church, Towyn
Unless you and your family are regular church-goers, you are probably not ready to make the commitment required of a baptism service. Baptism (Christening) is a sacrament and the rite of entry into the Christian Church. In the case of infant baptism, it requires parents and Godparents (who must themselves be baptised) to make promises to bring the child up in the Christian faith and to attend church regularly.
We offer a service of Thanksgiving for the Gift of a Child, in which thanks are given to God for your child and the child is named and blessed. The service leaves the way open for baptism in the future, should your child choose to be baptised. Unless you have been a regular church attender for six months, this is the service we recommend. It means that you don’t have to make promises that you will not be able to keep.
If you are a regular member of the congregation of St Mary’s, please see the Vicar after the Parish Eucharist on any Sunday regarding a suitable date for baptism for yourself or your child(ren).
If you wish to speak to the Vicar about the different forms of service and what might be appropriate for you or your child, Reverend Chris Feak can be reached on 01745 353955. Before a date can be arranged for the service, you will be asked to come to a Baptism Preparation session. These sessions are held on the first Wednesday of each month at 7.30pm. At the session, the different forms of service will be explained and you will be able to complete a form with your child(ren)’s name(s) and date(s) of birth and arrange a mutually convenient date for your service. You are welcome to bring your child(ren) and, in the case of Baptism, Godparents (remembering that they must themselves have been baptised).
When you come to Baptism Preparation, you will be able to complete a form with your child’s (or children’s) names and date(s) of birth and arrange a mutually convenient date for the service.
We look forward to hearing from you and welcoming you to St Mary’s
